With the new expansion means restarting progression after a long break. Also, learning new fights which has been even longer. I'm hoping to stir up some discussion with 2 questions:
What kind of learner are you?
From a teaching standpoint you get a variety of approaches - visual, audio or hands-on. People fall in various places on this spectrum. I have no preference for audio/visual, my introduction to a concept needs to incorporate a larger framework so I can place details in context or I will gloss over the information. Once I have that framework, I like to fill in all the details possible and to see how everything connects. Either of those styles can accomplish this. Then I go for the hands-on approach to shore up the information and get a better feel for it.
How do you learn raid bosses?
I look for a comprehensive guide online, usually a video guide. My recent favorites have been the ones by Vox Immortalis as they release multiple guides with lesser filler then Fat Boss: one super large detailed guide with all the information and smaller guides with information relevant to specific roles. After that I usually go into LFR to get some first-hand experience on the fight to better feel out the timing of things as videos are chopped up and don't show the actual rhythm well. I'll continue LFR to get a better jump on gear with a focus on trying to refine my performance. Often I'll go back to a written guide for a bit more detailing and refresher to prepare for normal raid progression. For those I rely on IcyVeins. Ultimately, I look to reinforce the information since so much of raiding comes down to repetition.
