Event Updates
Raid Team
- We had a recent thread discussing people's thoughts on our joint raid venture with Legion of Seraphim, thank you to everyone who participated. We were very grateful for the level of unique insight and perspective you each brought with you to the discussion. We will look for opportunities to have such discussions again.
- Unfortunately recent events have caused Warlin (our raid leader) to reevaluate his place in the guild and he has decided to bow out and join Legion of Seraphim. He has been joined by Kontokanis and Verreck (only his main).
- Friday's raid meet up will be to discuss the status of the raid team in light of these departures and how best to proceed going forward.
PvP
New Initiatives- In the same vein of bad news, our PvP efforts have stalled out despite our best efforts. We pitched a lot of ideas last meeting to try and drum up interest in a variety of activities but found very little response within our own guild and from others guidlds when we shopped around on the server. Lastly, our PvP Officer has taken an unannounced break from game.
- We will be halting efforts to run PvP events for the time being until we feel the situation has improved.
Old School Raids
- We're continuing to farm Firelands and Dragon Soul for anyone who is looking to get the Legendary Weapons from these raids.
- Congratulations to Manila on being promoted to the rank of Officer. He will be taking over organization of this event from me in light of his amazing efforts.
The Buddy System
- We've struggled to make this initiative work and we'll be overhauling our approach to it going forward hoping to streamline and focus our efforts better. We still feel the idea is a necessary one towards ensuring our new recruits are brought more fully into the community.
- There will be a informational meeting for anyone wanting to volunteer this Saturday night at 8:30 pm server. Message me or Mirannah in game through mail or whispers for an invite. If you cannot make it we will speak with you after to fill you in.
Class Workshop
- I've been running class workshops for the better part of a year and a half now, but they've generally been focused on one-on-one tutoring which is often time consuming. This workshop will actually be a seminar designed for a larger audience. Past efforts have focused on helping individuals with a specific class/spec. This one will focus on teaching people core skills that can be applied to any class/spec. Moreover, I will attempt to explain the insight I bring with me when working with people so that others can duplicate it on their own - give a man a fish, teach a man to fish etc.
- This workshop will encapsulate use of websites such as AskMrRobot.com and WorldofLogs.com as well as the program SimC (link is to program download page). MrRobot is a database and formula website that helps search for and evaluate gear and can calculate the optimal configuration of gems, reforges and enchantments. WorldofLogs is a resource website for raid groups to upload combat logs for events and organizes the data into charts and spreadsheets, very numbers heavy. SimC is the program used by the theorycrafting community to derive all the information we rely on such as class rotation, stat priorities, performance benchmarks etc, also very numbers heavy.
- The workshop will be held Sunday evening at 8:30 pm server.
Challenge Modes
- Over the course of the expansion, we've seen a lot of interest from our members in running these. All but one attempt has ended with a lot of frustration after getting nowhere. There has also been struggling efforts to get events organized and I've given people room to step up and do so. Now that I have the time to devote to this endeavor, I will be doing so in a way that makes sense to me.
- My one requirement for anyone interested is that they have beaten Proving Grounds: Gold on the class/role they wish to participate with. Just like with Challenge Modes, the Proving Grounds will inhibit your gear and thus prevent you from trying to overpower the scenario. Successful completion of both ventures requires a detailed planning of your actions, memorizing each wave/pull and liberal use of potions, flasks, food buffs and cooldowns. It is not enough to master your class, but it requires use of all tools available to you.
- My requirement of Proving Grounds: Gold stems from a desire to see our efforts be successful and that means preparing appropriately and being realistic about the level of challenge being offered. Understand that Challenge Modes are harder then raiding. The Dungeons are not at heroic level but are suped up in difficulty beyond that while the player has been artificially weakened and their abilities capped.
- I will make myself available to provide any assistance people need to prepare.
- If you are interested in attempting these challenges, please contact me at some point in the near future to discuss.
New Meeting/Contest Schedule
- Our current meeting schedule has been centered around our monthly contests, 4 weeks or so of the contest duration followed by 1 week of voting = next guild meeting. Mirannah's compulsion has made it a point that we should hold guild meetings on a more predictable timetable, that being the first week of each month.
- This 4 week cycle would result in very short contest runs that we don't feel work well, so we'll be spacing out our contests more. Contests will now take place over an 8 week period, so every other meeting we'll have a contest winner and a new one to announce.
Promotions
- Initiates to Members - Sadly, none this month. We hope to fix that next time around.
- Members to Veterans - Salanas, Devesh, Kaldra, Lola and Verreck
- Congratulations to Salanas for winning this month's contest. "It's my show hoe." "Make it rain."
- This month's contest will be using Thalen's idea from last year where you all will design an item based on someone in the guild and name it after them.
