I've been grinding out a lot of rep with this faction on the Timeless Isle since the patch hit. I've noticed a lot of people struggling with the elites. Mid-grind is poor time to be stopping to convey a lot of information, hence the creation of this post. What follows is a discussion of how to max your dps on the isle and more effectively tackle all of the high hp mobs there. After is a discussion of all the Yaungol mobs to better understand how they work and how to survive fighting them. The list is sorted from easiest to hardest to kill. The harder the kill, the more rep and Timeless Coins they reward.
*Important*
To save yourself more time and effort on this rep grind, look into purchasing the Banner of Cooperation from the guild vendor. This banner provides a 5% bonus to any rep gains shortening the grind just a little. The upgraded versions of this grant 10% and 15% bonuses but have yet to be unlocked as of this writing. Standard of Unity requires us to have done Cataclysm dungeon guild runs and Standard of Coordination requires about 4k more dailies to unlock.
Buffs:
There’s a lot of beefy elites running around the isle and you’ll want every edge you can get in order to take down the biggest fish for the best rewards and token gains. Below are a listing of various buffs you can utilize on the isle and when combined can DOUBLE your dps making it much easier to tackle bigger mobs or just speed up your grind.
Celestials Shrines:
May only have 1 active at a time, new buff will overwrite the old one. Chance of doing 1 million damage to all nearby creatures (but not you) instead of a buff. Shrines reactivate every 5 minutes about, so wander the isle till you get a buff.
• Niuzao – 25% damage reduction
• Xuen - +15% damage
• Yu’lon - +20% stats
• Chi-ji - +25% haste, crit and mastery
Timeless Nutrition – Eat any food off the ground on the isle for a 5% boost to all stats for 10 minutes. Does not stack with traditional food buffs. Seeing as this is free, readily available and more powerful, stick with this on the isle.
Items:
Found as random drops and consumed with use. All 3 may be active at once.
• Book of the Ages – Chance to proc +8k boost to your best stat
• Dew of Eternal Morning – Chance to proc 60k healing
• Singing Crystal – Chance to proc 100k bonus damage
Flasks:
There are several options here:
• Crystal of Insanity - +500 to all stats. Non-consumable, best option for doing this on the cheap. Is a random drop from some rares on the isle and one in Valley of 4 Winds.
• Alchemist’s Flask – Alchemist item to gain 320 to best stat for 2 hours. Handy, but not overly powerful.
• Traditional Flasks - +1k to stat of your choice, but get pricy.
Rep Grind Mobs
The mobs that grant Shaohao rep are brutal with high amounts of health and hard hitting attacks. Depending upon your ability to mete out dps and skill level, these are soloable but with risk of death on every pull. It is safer to tackle the elites in a group and scoring kills is much faster. These fights are generally predicated upon requiring you to deal high amounts of damage, have some reliable means of self-healing and have solid mobility skills as their most damaging attacks are all dodgeable. Below are a list of all the mobs, their abilities and how to deal with them.
• Ordon Candlekeeper – The weakest mob and only non-elite you can farm for rep .
o Pyroblast - hits you for 80k fire damage. While largely harmless, this spell makes them dangerous in packs.
• Ordon Fire-Watcher
o Pyroblast – Same as Candlekeeper
o Falling Flames - A channeled effect dropping fire in random spots around them that hit for 180k. Easy to dodge since it doesn’t aim for you directly.
• Ordon Oathguard – A mid-range tanky mob with 3 abilities
o Defensive Shield – Deflects attacks coming from the front.
o Oath of Guardianship – Channeled effect reducing incoming damae to himself and allies by 75%. Problematic if fighting a group, should be interrupted.
o Cracking Blow – Frontal cone attack that can be dodged.
• Burning Berserker
o Fiery Charge – Charge for 180k damage and stun used at range. Has no cd, so they will continue to charge you to death if you try to run away.
o Burning Cleave – Small aoe centered on them for 200k damage. Can be dodged by stepping out of range.
o Burning Fury - 200% haste boost.
o Forage – 5 Second cast that can’t be interrupted. A great window where the mob can’t do anything and you can jump them. Only used outside of combat.
• Blazebound Chanter – This mob can move and cast.
o Greater Pyroblast – same as Pyroblast, but hits for 180k.
o Fire Storm – Same as Falling Flames.
o Conjure Flamecore Elemental – Summons add that hits for 180k melee. Kite the add to avoid its attacks but don’t bother trying to kill it.
o Cauterize – Heals caster for 25% of its health. Casts when below 50% health. Interrupt this if you can, otherwise the fight drags on.
• Eternal Kilnmaster
o Fiery Charge – Same as the Berserker.
o Blazing Blow – Frontal cone aoe that hits for 480k – can usually survive 1 hit if you’re geared. While there is time to move out of the spot where it hits, reaction time is crucial and it is simpler easier to continually move side-to-side or run in circles to always be ahead of this.
o Conjure Eternal Kiln – Attackable urn that buffs the caster reducing the cast time of Blazing Blow and ensuring it insta-kills you. To survive the fight, you must kill this as soon as it is summoned.
