Have a question about the guild you want an answer to, please post it here for others who might have the same question. We'll try to be prompt with answering questions. Over time this will form the basis for a FAQ.

How do I get a cool(er) picture as my icon? How'd you do that? OK, step one - that's a little better.

How do I get a cool(er) picture as my icon? How'd you do that? OK, step one - that's a little better. Go to the Profile option on the top menu bar. Then, on the far right, you'll see an option to Edit Profile. There you'll have the option to select new avatars from a provided list or upload your own picture. I didn't see file size restrictions for uploading pictures, so that should give you a lot of freedom to use what you'd like.

What I want to know is what the hell is up with this new policy where we withhold promotions or demote people if they don't sign up for the forums? I don't like the idea of trying to strong arm people to do something. Punishing if them if they don't do what we want them to. If I hadn't already been signed up for the forums, this is the kind of thing that would make me say 'Screw you guys!' and take all my toons out of the guild. Is this really the kind of guild we all want to be a part of?

That took about 24 hours for someone to ask that question.
There is a substantial amount of information that is maintained on the forums and it is an important tool for disseminating it. While there are trivial things like recipes and other out of character stuff, those are kept in marked sections where no one needs to go. However, within this very section are notes from meetings for the majority of guild members who don't attend them. Yes, those meetings are meant to entail useful information and not just waste people's time for 2 hours. Many other sections are underutilized because a significant portion of the membership are not aware of them. Take for instance the Raid Team's section, where Warlin could choose to distribute information or guide to interested and active raiders or coordinate with them when trying to do so through game's limited interface is difficult. I've tried using the guild message of the day but the majority of people don't even notice the message before it gets covered up by the game's version text or text from addons. In this regard, it is an important tool in communicating other than through word of mouth which is highly ineffective the larger the guild gets.
Given how useful I feel the forums are, I've decided to make registration more compulsory. Towards that end I've tried to go with a combined carrot and stick approach. The 250 gold reward for the less than 5 minutes of effort to sign up is a better deal then what you'd get in game and while a small amount, isn't a trivial amount either. As for the stick, it is clearly stated in the post detailing how ranks function (also detailed in the guild's first meeting) in the guild that advancement is predicated upon active participation and contributing to the community...forums are a part of that, even requisite for some activities. The mission statement also echoes this sentiment (also detailed in the first guild meeting). As such, it is perfectly consistent within the outlined mission statement of the guild and rank structure. While participation in the forums is not mandatory, and never will be, enforced registration is there to ensure people are made aware of their existence and have ready access to pop on and look at certain bits of information they will be requested to look at.
I have laid out as best I can the reason why I feel the forums are a useful and important tool as well as how it is perfectly fair for the guild to ask its members to register for forums where participation is not enforced only the option made open. If your issue is simply should any forced be used at all... Membership in the guild is a voluntary act for both parties. Rank is not a right but something constructed by the leadership with a set criteria for how it is earned. Most guilds will not do you the courtesy of even telling you how to earn rank, instead promotions are handed out at random by vested parties. Here members are told straight out what is expected of them. This new policy represents an alteration to those expectations. While said expectations were made clear during the first guild meeting, many do not attend and this does not inform new members who join. Game does not offer an effective avenue for communicating all of this information to new members and so it must be stored somewhere - here was determined to be the most convenient space. New members are directed here in order to inform themselves but otherwise have no real knowledge of how all of that works. Members are not removed from the guild for refusing to participate, they are merely prevented from being rewarded for refusing to open an avenue of participation. That is their perogative and nothing more is being denied save for bonus access to the guild bank. Initiates have moderate access to all but the last tab of the guild bank (and in many cases they need only ask for someone to withdraw something for them), have a fairly generous allotment of repairs made open to them and they are not barred from attending any events or enjoying any other perk the guild offers. Rank may be withheld, but the benefits of said ranks are actually quite small and they are being deprived of little. If someone sat at the rank of initiate for 6 months or a year because they don't talk in chat, contribute to the guild bank, attend any events etc. - they are members of the guild in name only but not really participating in the community.
As for demotions, that is really an idle threat and there's no reason for it to ever come to that.

everyone should be on forums i know some will disagree but with just raids calender and basic info about specific bosses ect.. there is to much info to give out in game and with every one not on at the same time it would be hard just to give out basic info really. I wish i knew how to put links in here with all the time i spend on wowhead and other sites checking builds gear and gems there is bound to be something you guys might like.

To make links, you want to use the "reply" option instead of "quick reply". The buttons at the top, one of them on the right-side has a sphere with a notepad over it. Click that to insert links. You'll copy and paste the link and the box above allows you to display whatever you type as the link.
