Blizz has just posted something rather interesting for people who have had game accounts yet are currently inactive. As you know, the game has a Starter Edition mode wherein new players can play the game for free unlimited...which has prompted some vets to create alt accounts just to play when they're out of game and broke. Come 6.1, these inactive accounts will revert to the Starter Edition so you don't need to do this. This will have all the same restrictions, except that your sub-level 20 toons can join any guild where you already have characters in. The bright side is someone will not be completely locked out of game in times of financial stress where they can't afford the subscription. And is the first step to WoW moving towards a free-to-play model. Remember, in the future there will be in-game tokens tradeable for game-time that can be traded with in-game gold, another idea taken from that playbook.
