For those who don't know, Apexis Shards are basically VP and JP rolled into one and usable only for this expansion with an npc group who sells all sorts of gear in exchange for thousands of them. Your main source of these comes from your Garrison in the form of a daily, accessible once you reach level 100. You can choose between doing a solo mission for 800 or a 3-person mission for 1k.
We ran the group mission into the pit in northern Gorgrond. The quest said only to assault place, which is surprisingly vague. I assume all the rest are framed as such and I'm starting this thread to share the details of how these work to avoid the trial and error frustrations we'll all run into.
1 - Have something that can tank, either a pet or a tank or at the very least someone in plate. There's a lot of damage going out and these things don't die quickly.
2 - If you don't have someone who can tank, get a healer. You'll need one.
The quest for the pit doesn't have a kill counter but a progress bar. Kills add to the progress bar. You also have a resource meter for ammunition on the bottom of your screen. There are tons of drops on the floor to gain ammo. Reaching max ammo gives you shoulder cannons to do damage with. Additionally, there are weapons on the ground you can click that cost ammo to use. The two we saw were an Iron Star, that you roll into the mosh pit below to inflict a lot of casualties; and the other was a flare gun to call down an air strike into the same mosh pit. These 2 weapon types seem to be the main way to go to complete this mission. I recommend a single person be responsible for picking up the ammo for efficiency purposes, ideally the healer. Stay out of the mosh pit. There's hundreds of guys down there and they will wreck you. You run along the outer edges fighting off packs of 2-3 guards the whole time saving up for those big strikes.
I was exploring in Nagrand yesterday and one of the ogre bases is a proving grounds/ the ring of blood in all its glory. There's a group daily to assault that place, to find high profile contenders who are being trained to attack the horde, so I'm assuming that quest is more objective based ad the rest is cutting your way past the more powerful guards.
